KanBan Systems

ITL operates a Kanban system in conjunction with its cellular manufacturing philosophy. The term KanBan originated in Japan. Its literal translation Kan (card), Ban (signal) clearly specifies the basic principles of the system.

The essence of the KanBan system at ITL is that a supplier only delivers components to the production cell as and when they are needed. This eliminates any requirement for central stores, and the requirement to hold large amounts of stock on site.

Within ITL the KanBan system is also used for supply from one work cell to another (such as PCB production to manufacturing cell).

The KanBan system is a pull-through system whereby the delivery of components is pulled to the production cells by an order from you; this is in sharp contrast to the more traditional methods based on fixed schedule deliveries.

The supply method to the manufacturing cell is only a part of the KanBan management system which is in line with the Quality System implemented at ITL.
