Design Transfer - Case Study

A multinational company undertook a design and development programme with ITL to produce a bench-top diagnostic instrument. Having completed the development programme and manufactured over one thousand instruments at ITL the manufacture was transferred to the USA , which was the main market for the product and home of the major manufacturing facility of the multinational company.

The Requirement :

  • To transfer production of the instrument in its entirety.
  • To ensure supply of product throughout the process.

The Solution:

ITL produced a full transfer documentation package including works instructions and production jig requirements. ITL supplied engineering personnel to oversee the transfer to the US site, and to relocate on a temporary basis. The support provided by ITL enabled staff training and problem-solving whilst ramping-up production at the US facility. At ITL the production volume was ramped down over a number of months to ensure a continued provision of product as volume manufacture became steadily established in the USA .
